Artist's Biography

Scott Ray Randall is an emerging artist who lives in Sacramento, CA. He gains inspiration from his studies in biology (he holds a MS in Molecular Biology from CSUS) and chemistry (he works as an Air Pollution Specialist for the California Air Resources Board) as well as from his vivid and surreal dreams. He is completely self-taught, which has allowed his art to evolve in its own direction, uninfluenced by current trends.

He began working in collage in 1997, shortly thereafter moving on to work in acrylics. For many years he experimented with mixed-media works in the dadaist and abstract styles. He also had brief forays into other media such as photography and assemblage. He now works almost exclusively in digital media - digital collage using Adobe Photoshop to manipulate clips and images from old books, natural history prints, and ads to synthesize new works of art. This led him to become involved in mail art; as his digital art was easily converted into the postcards that are the movement's predominant medium. Coincidently, the mail art movement also has roots in dada; Scott's favorite aesthetic style, so he feels very 'at home' being involved in the movement. However, he is always trying to branch out and try new things - new media, new approaches and new syntheses.
