Assemblages Gallery

My Mechanism

Recently I had to clear out a storage room at work. We took everything we could use, and donated a the useful stuff to a local HS. In the end I was left with a ton of old, outdated, broken, or otherwise useless lab equipment. And it's perfect for making assemblages, as a lot of the things really have some character. This is the first piece that I have completed using these items. It is composed of a carved piece of manzanita wood, an aluminum fan blade, a piece of lab glassware, silicone, and colored water. I really like the interplay of the glass, metal, and wood, and plan on constructing more assemblages in this vein.

Attack of the 100 Foot Tall Radioactive Killer Flamingo

This assemblage was for the "Kitschy Kitschy Kool" exhibition at "How Original", an art gallery in Laguna Beach, CA. There was a contest to create the kistchiest creation using a pink plastic flamingo. I used two (one just for the 2nd head), Some butter knives for spines, wooden dawls and pipecleaners for legs, and plastic forks for fangs along with some clay and paint. I took 2nd place in the exhibit. Sadly, the art gallery has since closed. They probably had to for fear that my flamingo would exact it's wrath upon them for denying it first place.
