I tried to send a nice crossection of work in for the SURREALISM - Mail Art 2009! mail art call. The Modesto Art Museum is a great place that has been doing mail art exhibitions for a while now. It's close enough that I may actually be able to attend the exhibition, which will be held at the Modesto Art Museum in Modesto, CA from March 2 - March 28, 2009.

Himmroids
Media: Collage of Found Trash
Created: 07/2008

I took a walk around my home and made this collage with the trash I found. A very nice, very interesting way to create art while cleaning up your neighborhood. I like it. Sent in for the Merzwalk08 mail art call. Exhibition in January 2009, location TBD.

Moose Tube
Media: Rubber Stamped Autopoem
Created: 07/2008

I'm revisiting an old idea of mine that I really enjoy - the autopoem. It's essentially a randomly generated poem, allthough there is a bit more to it than that. Read the first page for a more detailed description. This was for the Poetry and Stamp Art call.

Old Tart
Media: Fabric Collage with Glue and Glitter
Created: 04/2008

One of a series of postcards that I made using pieces of my old blankie, with applied messages and phrases in glue and glitter. This one is one of my favorites. It's for the Postcard Readings mail art call. Artwork will be exhibited in 3 separate venues in October 2008, presumably somewhere in Canada.

The wooden bone hangs down 5 feet from the braided quilt.

Snuggle up to a Book #1, 2, & 3
Media: Collage, Fabric and Acrylics
Created: 03/2008

Contributions to the "International Bookmarker Art show" to be held at the Plainsboro Public Library in Plainsboro, New Jersey, from July 7 - August 4, 2008, as part of the Cultural Crossroads arts festival. The bookmarks I've made are actually shreds of my childhood quilt applied to card stock and then 'enhanced' with acrylic paints that add an opalescent and/or golden shimmer to them.

Crappy Collage and Wounded Chair
Media: Collage, 8.5" X 11"
Created: 02/2008

Art for the mail art exhibition "Les arts à Tantimont" to be held at the postal agencies of areas 54, 74 and 88 in France from June to November 2008. I did the photography and modification in photoshop, but my two year old daughter is the one who actually arrainged these two collages. One is a collage of bandaids that she made on her chair when she was supposed to be napping; the other is a collage that she made on the toilet seat when I was distracted. On both occassions she came to get me afterwards and told me that she made some art - so it was intended as such.

Pop Off
Media: Collage, 8.5" X 11"
Created: 03/2008

Art piece for the mail art exhibition 'Sacredness of the Wildlife' to be held at the Hellenic Pagan Festival "Olympieia" in Athens, Greece in April 19-20, 2008. The term "pop off" is included in the collage and also refers to extinction, thus tying in with the dinosaur and irish elk in the collage.

Security Blanket
Media: Collage with Fabric, Acrylics, and Ink
Created: 03/2008

This piece of art is for the exhibition "Your Documents Please". The exhibition will feature faux security documents from artists around the world. My contribution was created with a portion of my childhood blanket as a backdrop, thus incorporating my security blanket into my security document. The piece is also coated in gold and pearl iridescent paint so that it has a holographic appearance that can't be seen in the photo. This is a travelling exhibition that will be held first at the The Museum of Arts & Crafts-ITAMI in Japan from April 4-20, 2008, then ZAIM, in Yokohama, Japan from August 2-17, 2008, then the 2B Gallery in Budapest, Hungary, in November - December 2008, then at the Galerie Kurt im Hirsch in Berlin, Germany in January 2009, followed by the GALÉRIA Z in Bratislava, Slovakia, in February 2009, and lastly the Galería Ajolote Arte Contemporáneo in Guadalajara, Mexico, from April 17 - May 8, 2009. More exhibitions may be added in the future.

Stop! You're Scaring the Children!
Media: Digitally Printed Photo
Created: 01/2008

This mail art project's theme is 'The Carnival'. The instructions said to send "the transformation of your face into a mask". The instructions were translated to English from Italian, and I'm not entirely sure that I did what they were expecting. Nonetheless, I thought my face made a pretty comical mask. I'm fairly certain someone will have a good time with it. An exhibition was held during the Carnevale dei Ragazzi in S. Eraclio, Italy, February 03-10, 2008.

Fecal Passage and Dirty Water Passage
Media: Digitally Printed Photo Postcards
Created: 01/2008

This mail art project had a theme of Doors and Passages. If you can't tell, the pictures are of the passages exiting my toilet and bathtub. There are to be exhibitions held throughout the Vernoux region of France during 2008.

Pulsating Vibrators
Media: Collage
Created: 01/2008

Erotic themed mail art exhibition to be held in the art gallery “La Caverna” in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina in September 2008. The basis for this postcard was the fact that I had an old engineering magazine that actually used the phrase 'pulsating vibrators' in a non-sexual way. I didn't think it was possible.

Maervelous Manifestation
Media: Collage
Created: 01/2008

The theme of this mail art call was 'The Myraid Manifestations of Mail Art'. Exhibition to be held at the Niagara County Community College Art Gallery from March 18 - April 18, 2008.
